Shear-flow mediated changes in DNA morphology

چکیده
1. Introduction The behavior of DNA molecules in liquid flow is of interest in many different fields, since many processes in medicine and technology involve the transport and manipulation of long polymers such as DNA. Furthermore, due to its variability in length, DNA is a useful target for verifying theoretical polymer models. In contrast to former experiments on similar issues [1-3], we do not stain the whole molecule with bis-intercalating fluorescent dyes in order to visualize the DNA, but we label exclusively the non-tethered end with a nanometer-sized quantum dot (Qdot). This end-specific labelling has the considerable advantage over common approaches not to modify the intrinsic mechanical properties of the DNA and to allow reasonably long observation times due to significantly reduced bleaching.

Blood Vessels Shear Stress Mediates Endothelial Adaptations to Exercise Training in Humans
Although episodic changes in shear stress have been proposed as the mechanism responsible for the effects of exercise training on the vasculature, this hypothesis has not been directly addressed in humans. We examined brachial artery flow-mediated dilation, an index of NO-mediated endothelial function, in healthy men in response to an acute bout of handgrip exercise and across an 8-week period ...

The structure and function of blood vessels adapt to environmental changes, for example, physical development and exercise. This phenomenon is based on the ability of endothelial cells (ECs) to sense and respond to blood flow. ECs are in direct contact with blood flow and exposed to shear stress. A number of recent studies have revealed that ECs recognize changes in shear stress and transmit si...

Chronic increases in arterial blood flow elicit an adaptive response of the arterial wall, leading to vessel enlargement and reduction in wall shear stress to physiological baseline value. Release of nitric oxide from endothelial cells exposed to excessive shear is a fundamental step in the remodeling process, and potentially triggers a cascade of events, including growth factor induction and m...
متن کاملAssociation of Flow-mediated Dilation with Shear Rate in Patients and Healthy Volunteers
Introduction: Flow mediated-dilation (FMD) is a noninvasive test of endothelial function based on shear stressdependent nitric oxide secretion causing vasodilation. Normalization of FMD to shear stress was previously proposed. The aim of present study is an examination of relationship between shear rate and FMD in patients with hypertension and atherosclerosis in comparison with healthy volunte...
